How it works

How it works: You get any clothes that need appliques and/or patches to me (I also do small alterations for tears on seams, etc). I'll take a look and let you know if they are good candidates for my service and get them fixed up! Prices are based on number of fabrics, etc. If you know you want a certain type of applique on my menu, I'll do that shape and choose the perfect fabric/s for you. As the fabrics are repurposed and/or vintage, each applique is unique and I can't guarantee I'll have any specific kind of fabric. If you have a color preference, let me know, but other than that, you have to trust me! See the posts below for a la carte pricing and samples/menu prices. If you have awesome clothes that need a little help that your children have outgrown, I may exchange them for credit on appliques. And I always take custom work! If you have any questions, ask! Thank you, Laura

Take Cover! - $4

This was a common children's brand shirt with a HUGE run on sentence about what a bruiser my kid was supposed to be and how he took after his daddy, etc. Not wanting to sacrifice the cuteness of the shirt, I used a block of repurposed cotton in NYC coffee cups to spunk it up!

Four-in-hand - $6

This is a two-piece four-in-hand tie. Fancy boy!!! This one was done in silk, which didn't hold up as I'd hoped, so I'll do these in cottons. No two are the same!
Price modifications:
One-piece fabric tie - $5

Whaley Whale - $9

This was one of those known children's brand onesies with an obnoxious jungle theme on it, but I liked the color. I used a designer wave patterned fabric to make a whale shaped applique and two vintage buttons for the eye.
Price modifications:
Whale shape only - $5
Whale shape with mouth and eye stitched (same color) - $6
Whale as seen with a single vintage button - $8

Here's another whale applique. Two pieces, but I have more of this fabric (repurposed from pottery barn kids sheets. Whale only $5...add a fish $2. This is covering a gargantuan "ROCK ON!"

Flower Power - $7

My daughter came home from school with a half dozen holes in her still vibrant dress (scissors anyone?). I made a flower applique out of an Amy Butler scrap and two leaves from a vintage green gingham. After ironing-on, the flower was topstitched along the edge with sunny yellow and the leaves were done in green.
Price Modifications:
Flower applique (no leaves) - $5
Flower with one leaf - $6

Another example of how flowers can fix anything:

The Big Mouth - $7

For knee patches, pants less than 7 inches across must be deconstructed on a leg seam.
See pictures below. Prices are per knee.
Price modifications:
Big patch (over or under) - $5
Lil' patch (over or under) - $4

Spiderman protects knees that tore through the side seam:

Space exploration masks corduroys that were getting thin (these pants were deconstructed and resewn on the seam you can see...you wouldn't notice from the inside or outside):

Look what I can do! AKA "why you can trust me!"

This is some of my body of work (at least the ones I have pictures for right now). I hope that ths gives you some insight into my capability and my style. If you like what you see here, I think you'll be happy with my work. I am all about fashion AND function. My work is made to be loved, washed, and worn and passed down to someone else who will love it. If you are interested in a brand new piece of clothing like one you see here, let me know.

I made this dress after finding the owl fabric; I couldn't pass it up. It is a mathematical masterpiece, lining up perfectly on each side seam. The owls go on forever :) I measured this about 12 times before I cut it. I think that took more time than the actual sewing. You might notice that the under dress and bodice is the same fabric as used in my flower power sample.
